Mr. Ochoa's Class to Visit MoPop, Attend Writer's Workshop

Students popping into the Museum of Pop to Enhance Reading, Writing Skills through Pop Culture Narratives

Student Grant Recipients Total: 22

Estimated Award Amount: $879.86*

STARS has awarded an $880* grant to Mr. Ochoa’s 4th and 5th grade class, who are taking their learning to the next level with a visit to the Museum of Pop (MoPop). Here, they'll engage in an enriching experience to enhance their reading comprehension and writing skills.

Students will attend The Hero’s Journey to Collective Journey In-Museum Workshop. This workshop will give students the chance to become inspired storytellers as they explore, compare, and contrast the individual-centered Hero’s Journey and the collaborative Collective Journey story structures. This experience aims to strengthen students’ story building/writing, Hero’s Journey story structure, Collective Journey story structure, character archetypes, writing narratives, and language arts in an interactive and engaging way. Plus, they'll get to celebrate their own identities while creating fantasy characters and embarking on a journey together to problem-solve as a collective community.

After the workshop, students will have the opportunity to explore the Museum's storytelling exhibits, including Hidden Worlds: The Films of LAIKA, Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic, and Infinite Worlds of Science Fiction.

Before heading back to Edmonds Elementary, they'll also get to go on a short tour of The Seattle Center Monorail.
